Thanks to John for a lift and a joint visit to Doddington this morning. Nothing special but enough for a WeBS core count and to confirm breeding for tufted duck when a female appeared with six small ducklings. Then a pleasant hour in Wybunbury churchyard looking for Spotted Flycatcher; pleasant but no success.

I did a survey of the Haslington swift colony last night. Conditions were perfect – warm, dry, no wind, after 9pm – and I only counted six birds, although two were seen to fly under the eaves to a nest. Numbers have been around ten for several years now but looking back at the 1995 swift survey there were over 100 birds in this colony!
