Colin Mike & Andy 23rd October 2023
At Doddington this morning the best bird was definitely a commic tern. Seen well as it fed close in front of the Sailing Club and after considerable discussion and research we are confident it was an arctic tern, a late traveller on its way to warmer southern climes.
Several other good birds including a female goldeneye, the first of the winter; a female goosander; one of the two stonechats which we hope will stay for the winter; still 50+ great crested grebes although little grebes are now down to under 20; few ducks with just 18 tufted and a pair of wigeon but a skein 45 of pink-footed geese over was good

A slow start at Doddington this morning, just singles of Teal and Shoveler and still good numbers of Grebes but no count, sorry Colin! On the Lemon pool a single Wigeon and a flyover G.W.Egret.Back on the main pool a brief view of one Peregrine but better views of a juv trying to nail a gull, without success. Both Common Tern and female Goosander dropped in and still present when we left.Sparrowhawk and Kestrel also noted.
Colin 17th October 2023
