Falcon on Pyms Lane
If you are going to Bentley Motors to buy a new car for Xmas, please cast an eye towards the pylons near the traffic lights at the junction with Middlewich Rd.
I was driving along Pyms Lane this morning but in traffic so I couldn’t stop when I heard a falcon calling.
Looking up I saw 2 falcons flying and calling close to the pylons. Could they be a pair of Peregrines?
There is a report of bird(s) there in the same period in 2009 and from nearby Leighton Hospital between 2002 to 2014

Macon Meadows this morning in the sunshine!
I hadn’t been there long when I heard the tits alarm call, usually means the presence of a Sparrowhawk. Looking round and skywards, I saw a raptor whose ‘jizz’ was falcon not hawk! Through my binoculars, I saw it was a Peregrine.
What struck me though ( as it was circling and gaining height ) was that the underside was pale – almost white ( I couldn’t make out any barring ) and it had a distinct large white rump! I’ve don’t recall noticing that plumage before.
BWPi description of a juvenile Peregrine – “Upper tail-coverts incompletely barred buff; greater upper wing-coverts with some buff spots”.
This bird must be one of the young raised locally and has not yet dispersed ( they bred in the area this year, the first record since 2011 at The Alexandra Stadium ).
Other notable records: – Buzzard, Kingfisher & Grey Wagtail
