I finally felt well enough to go to Doddington this afternoon but an unpleasant incident rather spoilt it. When I got there two guys with cameras and big lenses were at the edge of the field in a good position, not disturbing anything. I had some good scope views of the four stilts, four green sands, yellow wagtail, pied wagtail, teal, shelduck and a lot of geese.
The two guys went and a few minutes later a couple appeared also with cameras and big lenses. However, they just marched through the wheat crop to the edge of the water. The geese were frightened, took off and also took every other bird with them. After a minute there wasn’t a bird in sight. I shouted and told them that they shouldn’t be there. The woman looked a bit surprised as if she couldn’t understand why the birds had all flown off, then went back to the car, but the guy stormed up to me and gave me some abuse and threatened me if I shouted at them again.
So the good side and the bad side of bird photography.
