A very, very quiet morning at Doddington today. The only duck species was mallard; no geese, coot numbers down and mute swans down to 13. The only good thing (apart from the warm sunshine) was that grebe numbers continue to increase. Between us we finished with totals of 54 for great crested grebe and 48 for little grebe.
Colin 26th September 2023
A few good birds at Rode Pool this morning with great white egret being the best. 3 mandarins on the water and a group of 13 flew in to join them. Also 1 shoveler on the water. 2 house martins flew over low.

Colin 22nd September 2023
At Doddington this morning, a high grebe count, with a lot of help from Mike & Andy! Great crested totalled 43, with another 3 on the Lemon Pool and little grebe totalled 34. Also mute swans were down to 9 but a grey wagtail was looking good. 2 kingfishers on the Lemon Pool from an angler, 26 tufted and 2 shoveler but very few other ducks except for a mallard female with a just hatched brood of four. Sadly a tawny owl carcass was by the entrance from the road; very fresh and looked in excellent condition – apart from being dead!

At Doddington yesterday (Friday) 2 black-necked grebes were showing well for the two hours that I was there with 30+ gc gebes and 12+ little grebes for comparison. Also 23 tufted and 7 shoveler and sadly one mute swan dead and floating in the reeds on Lemon Pool

Borrow Pit Meadows – 1515
Mixed flock of 30+ Swallows and House Martins through
Jay, Nuthatch and Robin still coming to food.
On the pool
8 Mallards but no sign of female Teal
The Teal has been here for about three years because of suspected damaged wing but over last few months has done a lot of flapping its wings and last week I saw it fly across the pool, so maybe it has moved on!
