A good 75 Sand Martins and 4 Swallows feeding over Doddington this morning.
29th March 2019
Sandach Flashes today around 5.30 p.m. PHF – Little Ringed Plover (2); EHF – Goosander (2 male), Oystercatcher (1), Snipe (4).
28th March 2019
A couple of decent year ticks for Doddington with a female Common Scoter and a Little Egret.Other sightings from the past few days were,2s of Raven,Jay and Red-legged Partridge,Common Gull,Sand Martin,Shelduck down to 2 and Shoveler 8.Still 2 pairs of Gadwall and a single Snipe.

Congleton – River Dane between the Aldi roundabout and the park. Dipper, grey wagtail and female goosander, all around 8:00am to 10:00am.

More Wagtails at Doddington with 17 Pied with 1 White.Also this afternoon,1 Snipe,1 male Pochard and 2 Ravens.

At Doddington this morning a redshank was an unusual visitor. Numbers of gadwall 4, and shoveler 22 were holding on but shelduck 9 and goldeneye 5 were down. Great crested grebe numbers were up to 18 with 3 pairs doing the head shaking display.

Not much change at Doddington this morning but 3 Swallows were worth a visit.Also different were 3 Meadow Pipits,a pair of Reed Buntings and 10 Fieldfares.Sand Martin still feeding over the water but the Pied Wagtails had nearly all moved on.

More Pied Wagtails probably dropped down during the day Colin,there were 22 around the sailing club late this afternoon.

At Doddington this morning 8 pied wagtails seen from the hall drive. Also on the water still 15 shelduck but goldeneye down to 6.

A White Wagtail with nine Pied Wagtails at Doddington this afternoon.

A sunny but windy morning gave up 1 sand martin, shelduck numbers continue to increase with 16 for me (but more for Mike and Andy), 21 shoveler, 137 tufted, 4 gadwall (2 pairs), 6 oystercatchers (2 on the back pool), 13 great crested grebe, 4 little grebe plus a singing skylark and a chiffchaff heard in the woods.

An early Sand Martin in at Doddington this morning and a Peregrine and Sparrowhawk in the air together over the woods.Also 8 Goldeneye, 20 Shelduck,25 Shoveler,2 Gadwall,2 Little Grebes,6 Oystercatcher and a Common Gull.Quiet at Lea Forge with just Meadow Pipit,small flock of Linnets,4 Greenfinch and Song Thrush of note.

Caterpillar tracks – Macon Meadows
I was surprised to see caterpillar / earthmover tracks on the southern bank of River Waldron / Valley Brook between Macon Way and the culvert under the railway track.
After years of ignoring this area, they have scraped off most of the vegetation, cut down much of the overhanding trees & branches and pushed surplus earth up the embankment towards business units.
I am assuming it’s the council spending money before the end of the financial year but it will deprive our warblers of habitat this year!
Rant over – not much to see or hear.
Two male Bullfinches singing was nice though and an elusive Treecreeper

14 Goldeneyes in single file at Doddington this morning,contained 6 males.Also 15 Shelduck,2 Gadwall,2 Brambling in a chaffinch flock,and a Peregrine.
